Position: Data Engineer

The Data Engineer will be a foundational member of our data team, responsible for designing, building, and maintaining robust and scalable data pipelines and infrastructure. This role is essential for ensuring that our data is accurate, accessible, and reliable, enabling data analysts and other stakeholders to derive timely insights and support critical business operations.

We are seeking an entry-level to mid-career Data Analytics Engineer to help grow our nascent data team. You will play a pivotal role in shaping both internal and customer-facing reporting and analytics of our VR training platform.

Development opportunities:

Mentorship: Direct mentorship from the Director of Data and other senior technical leaders.
New Technology Adoption: Continuous learning and hands-on experience with emerging data engineering tools and cloud technologies.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Deepening partnerships with teams across the business to understand diverse data needs and build comprehensive solutions.

What you’ll do:

Design and build data pipelines: Develop, construct, test, and maintain scalable data pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and loading data from various sources into our data warehouse.
Manage data infrastructure: Oversee and optimize our data warehouse (BigQuery) and our Dagster instance, ensuring data quality, integrity, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
Ensure data reliability and accessibility: Implement processes for data validation, error handling, and monitoring to ensure data accuracy and availability for analytical and operational needs
Support data consumers: Collaborate with data analysts and analytics engineers to understand their data requirements and provide efficient data solutions.
Automate data processes: Identify opportunities to automate manual data processes, improving efficiency and reducing operational overhead.
Implement data governance: Work to establish and enforce data governance best practices, including data security, privacy, and compliance.

A learner: You follow your curiosity. You are genuinely interested in the field and honing your craft. You keep an eye out for new tools, and love learning new ways of doing things by reading documentation, blogs, books, or watching conference talks.

Requirements - You are a good fit if you have:

At least 1 year of professional experience (could be from an internship). We are also open to considering mid-senior level candidates if the pay range aligns (see below).
Comfort with Python, especially for extracting data from APIs. We use dagster+dlt.
Production experience with orchestrators like dagster or airflow, and data transformation tools like dbt.
Preferred strong SQL and data warehouse management experience. We use BigQuery.
Have a software engineering mindset and toolkit - git, testing, code reviews.
Bonus points for experience with CDC pipelines.

Pay: $90k-$140k (depending on experience)

The company conducts background checks after extending offers of employment. These screenings are performed by third-party specialists.
