Job Title: Senior Firmware Engineer - Medical Devices

StemWave is looking for a Senior Firmware Engineer to take a lead role in designing and implementing embedded systems for Class II medical devices. You’ll own critical firmware development initiatives, ensure compliance across regulatory standards, and collaborate cross-functionally to deliver safe, reliable therapeutic technologies. This is an opportunity for engineers with 4–7 years of experience who are ready to step into greater ownership, influence design decisions, and help shape best practices in a fast-paced R&D environment.
Lead development and testing of embedded firmware for hardware, software, and QA integration
Ensure compliance with IEC 62304, FDA QSR, and ISO 13485 across all firmware development phases
Drive verification and validation activities, risk assessments, cybersecurity reviews, and hardware-in-the-loop testing
Write and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and regulatory submission artifacts
Participate in and help guide cross-functional design reviews, providing technical leadership in firmware architecture and implementation
Contribute to test fixture development and support hardware test setups
4–7 years of embedded firmware development experience, preferably in regulated industries (medical device experience strongly preferred)
Advanced proficiency in C++; strong Python skills for automation and tooling
Deep understanding of RTOS environments and secure data exchange protocols
Proficiency with Linux development tools, cross-compilers, and debugging instruments (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG, etc.)
Proven track record ensuring regulatory compliance (IEC 62304, FDA QSR, ISO 13485) and contributing to regulatory submissions
Hands-on experience supporting hardware teams during system integration, bring-up, and troubleshooting
Strong skills with Git or similar SCM tools; capable of producing detailed test protocols, validation reports, and design documentation
Demonstrated ability to take ownership of projects, influence cross-functional teams, and mentor peers in a collaborative R&D environment
