Data Scientist – Supply Chain & Transportation Forecasting
Location: Atlanta, GA
Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and forward-thinking Data Scientist to join our Supply Chain Channel Management team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in machine learning, predictive modeling, and transportation analytics, who thrives in a research-driven environment. Unlike traditional reporting roles, this position focuses on developing advanced forecasting models to predict truckload movements in and out of distribution centers (DCs), enabling smarter, data-driven decisions across our supply chain network.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze transportation and logistics data to forecast truckload arrivals and departures at distribution centers using statistical and machine learning techniques.
- Design and implement predictive models to optimize supply chain flow and reduce bottlenecks.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) and hypothesis-driven research to uncover patterns and trends in supply chain operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify business problems and translate them into data science solutions.
- Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and modeling workflows using Python, SQL, and cloud-based tools.
- Communicate findings and model outputs through compelling visualizations and presentations tailored to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Evaluate model performance and continuously improve accuracy through experimentation and feedback loops.
- Ensure data integrity and consistency across modeling efforts and analytical outputs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in a data science or advanced analytics role, preferably within supply chain, logistics, or transportation.
- Strong proficiency in Python (including libraries like pandas, scikit-learn, NumPy) and SQL.
- Experience building and deploying machine learning models in production environments.
- Solid understanding of supply chain dynamics, transportation logistics, and distribution center operations.
- Ability to work independently on research-heavy projects and communicate complex findings clearly.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or matplotlib/seaborn.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with time series forecasting, optimization algorithms, or simulation modeling.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and data warehouse technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift).
- Exposure to ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and transportation management systems (TMS).
- Background in inventory planning, demand forecasting, or network optimization.
