The Opportunity

We are looking for a Data Platform Engineer to join our IT team full-time and on-site in the Chicago area. This role is central to long-term modernization strategy and will serve as both a technical leader and subject matter expert for our enterprise-wide data infrastructure.

You’ll collaborate with IT, developers, operations, and leadership to design reliable data pipelines, enhance business workflows, and deliver actionable insights. This is an excellent role for someone who thrives in a hands-on, fast-moving environment and enjoys tackling complex data and integration challenges with autonomy.

What You’ll Do

SQL Server Architecture – Design, maintain, and optimize our Microsoft SQL Server environment for scalability, performance, and reliability.
Data Modeling & Schema Design – Build efficient data models for applications, reporting, and automation, structuring data into facts, dimensions, and attributes.
ETL Development – Create and maintain ETL pipelines in C# or Python, integrating diverse data sources (flat files, JSON, XML, APIs, X12 EDI, databases).
Database Administration – Manage indexing, query tuning, backups, archiving, and database security.
Reporting & Analytics – Develop Power BI dashboards and connect data across systems to support inventory, finance, forecasting, and other functions.
Integration & Automation – Partner with IT and development teams to build integrations and workflows that drive operational efficiency.
Data Quality & Accessibility – Enforce consistency, accuracy, and structure across enterprise data while maintaining a library of data definitions.
Mentorship & Leadership – Share expertise, review code, and promote best practices within the IT team.
ERP Management – Support and optimize ERP usage (Microsoft Dynamics GP) for accurate company, vendor, order, and item setup.
Compliance & Controls – Ensure data practices align with accounting, compliance, and regulatory standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration – Translate business needs into technical solutions, building strong partnerships across departments.

What We’re Looking For

5+ years of SQL Server experience in production environments
Strong skills in C# or Python for ETL, scripting, and automation
Hands-on experience with data integration (flat files, JSON, XML, APIs, etc.)
Solid knowledge of data modeling, normalization/denormalization, and indexing
Power BI proficiency to design dashboards and deliver insights
Expertise with Microsoft ecosystems (SQL Server, Windows environments)
ERP knowledge, particularly with accounting, compliance, and controls
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to bridge technical and business needs
