Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Azure Data Engineer to join our onshore team in Dallas, TX. This role is focused on designing, developing, and managing end-to-end data pipelinesto onboard new source system data into an Azure Synapse-based Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, and Data Lake Storage, with a strong understanding of data modeling, source system integration, and data platform architecture.
This position will act as the technical lead onshore, partnering with architects, analysts, and offshore engineering teams to ensure timely, secure, and scalable data delivery into the Synapse EDW environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of end-to-end data pipelines to ingest, transform, and load data from diverse source systems into Azure Synapse Analytics.
- Collaborate with Data Architects to define data modeling strategies and ensure alignment with EDW architecture standards.
- Coordinate daily with offshore development teams to review design specifications, track progress, and ensure high-quality delivery.
- Build and maintain reusable, scalable components in ADF and Databricks (PySpark/Spark SQL) for source data ingestion, transformation, and validation.
- Establish and enforce data engineering best practices for CI/CD, testing, and documentation.
- Support sprint planning and effort estimation with Scrum Masters and PMs and actively participate in Agile ceremonies.
- Troubleshoot pipeline failures and provide root cause analysis and remediation guidance.
- Ensure pipelines support lineage tracking, error handling, and audit logging as required for enterprise-scale data platforms.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 6+ years of experience in Data Engineering, with a focus on data integration and ETL pipeline development.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in Azure data platform tools, including:
- Azure Data Factory (ADF) – developing complex, parameterized pipelines
- Azure Synapse Analytics – loading and querying EDW tables, managing performance
- Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2
- Strong experience with SQL, T-SQL, and performance optimization in relational databases.
- Solid understanding of dimensional modeling, data warehouse architecture, and ETL best practices.
- Practical experience working in Agile environments using CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps).
- Experience with Databricks (Spark SQL and/or PySpark) for transformation logic and data prep.
- Familiarity with Delta Lake and Lakehouse concepts.
- Proven ability to lead technical discussions with distributed teams and translate business needs into technical requirements.
Nice to Have:
- Exposure to Power BI or other reporting/visualization tools (used for validation or reference, not core to the role).
- Knowledge of data governance, lineage, and quality frameworks (e.g., Azure Purview).
- Experience onboarding new data sources into EDW including API, flat files, database replication, etc.
