The MNIT DCT team provides essential IT support for a wide range of healthcare services, including mental health, substance abuse treatment, and support for individuals with developmental disabilities. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that the technology needs of DCT are met, enabling them to deliver high-quality care and treatment services to Minnesotans in need.
Are you passionate about building and optimizing data systems that drive meaningful insights? As a Data Engineer with Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) partnering with Direct Care and Treatment (DCT), you’ll design, develop, and support data pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouses within our AWS environment. You’ll collaborate with business and technical partners to ensure that data solutions are reliable, secure, and aligned with enterprise data governance standards.
In this role, you’ll leverage a wide array of data tools and technologies to build scalable and automated data systems that empower analytics and reporting across DCT programs. You’ll apply your technical expertise to enhance performance, improve data quality, and support innovation—contributing directly to better outcomes for the individuals and communities we serve.
Multiple vacancies will be filled and are being posted at the Information Technology Specialist 3 and Information Technology Specialist 4 levels. The final classification will be determined by the selected candidates' qualifications. All applicants will be considered for all vacancies.
This position requires an employee to be onsite at 3200 Labore Rd, Vadnais Heights, MN 55110 at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location. Telework for Minnesota IT Services is available on a limited basis. Employees will be required to meet current telework eligibility requirements.

Information Technology Specialist 3 Level:
Position requires a minimum of three (3) years of experience in information technology performing data engineering, database development, or related IT work.

Designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines, data warehouses, or data lakes to support data integration and reporting.

Hands-on experience with multiple AWS data services (e.g., S3, Glue, Redshift, Athena, RDS, Step Functions, IAM service roles, or Lambda) for data storage, transformation, and automation, as well as experience integrating and exchanging data using REST and SOAP APIs.

Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language such as Python or R for data extraction, transformation, and optimization.

Demonstrated ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve data process issues to ensure data accuracy, reliability, and integrity.

Experience applying data governance, security, and data quality best practices across cloud and database environments.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.

Customer service skills that demonstrate active listening, empathy, and effective problem-solving.

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of experience in information technology performing data engineering, database development, or related IT work.
Experience must include:

Experience with DevOps principles, automated testing, and CI/CD for data pipelines.

Familiarity with emerging technologies such as generative AI, semantic search, vector databases, or Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).

Demonstrated experience mentoring others or leading assigned work efforts.

Proven ability to troubleshoot complex data integration issues and propose innovative, scalable solutions.
