About Scaylor
Scaylor helps mid-market and enterprise companies make sense of their data.
Most teams' past $20M ARR struggle with fragmented systems, outdated databases, and countless spreadsheets that never align. We solve that by building pipelines that clean, normalize, and connect data turning chaos into clarity. Our platform handles everything from parsing financial models and reports to mapping tables across legacy databases and modern APIs. The goal is simple: give companies a single source of truth they can trust. We’re a small, fast-moving team of four (one backend engineer, one frontend engineer, and two founders). We’re looking for our fifth teammate to help scale the engine behind it all.
The Role
As a Data Engineer at Scaylor, you’ll work across data engineering and full-stack development to build reliable infrastructure that powers real workflows. You’ll design and maintain ingestion pipelines, transformation logic, and APIs that surface insights to clients. You’ll collaborate directly with the founding team, influence technical decisions, and help shape the next version of Scaylor’s core platform.
What You’ll Do
- Build ETL pipelines to extract, clean, and standardize data from Excel files, PDFs, APIs, and legacy databases.
- Design schemas and transformation logic for structured and semi-structured data.
- Develop and maintain backend APIs (Python/FastAPI or Node/Express) for data access and analytics.
- Integrate backend services with frontend dashboards (React, Next.js).
- Work with Neo4j, Postgres, and other databases to model relationships and store normalized data.
- Set up and maintain AWS infrastructure (Lambda, S3, ECS, CloudFormation) or Fly.io.
- Collaborate with clients to understand data challenges and design workflows that solve them.
- Contribute ideas on how to unify and transform data at scale using modern approaches.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and architectures as a Data Engineer, while leveraging front-end development skills in React.js to create intuitive user interfaces for data visualization and interaction.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience: 3+ years in data engineering, backend, or full-stack roles.
- Strong understanding of ETL, data normalization, and schema mapping.
- Proficiency in Python or TypeScript with clean, maintainable coding practices.
- Solid SQL skills and experience with legacy systems.
- Comfortable managing cloud services and debugging data pipelines.
- Passion for solving messy data problems and building scalable solutions.
- Front-end development skills in React.js
Nice to Have
- Experience with document parsing, Excel automation, or data cleaning libraries.
- Familiarity with Postgres or NoSQL databases.
- Understanding of enterprise data flows (ERP, CRM, financial systems).
- Experience with containerization (Docker), CI/CD pipelines, and GitHub Actions.
- Interest in lightweight ML or LLM-assisted data transformation.
Why Join Scaylor?
Be one of the first five team members shaping the product and company direction.
Work directly with the founders and influence technical strategy.
Build infrastructure that solves real problems for real companies.
Enjoy a collaborative, fast-paced environment where your impact is immediate.
