The Role:

ForMotiv, a rapidly growing startup at the cutting edge of web and AI, is seeking an energetic Senior Data Engineer to join our innovative team. We're looking for a data-oriented software engineer who thrives on challenging problems and is excited to work with industry experts.

In this role, you'll be at the heart of developing our high-volume, high-speed behavioral collection platform and related tooling. Your focus will be on optimizing and maintaining our AWS Data Lake. You'll work with Python services in a serverless, container-based AWS environment, architecting and optimizing data solutions across multiple stores, including an S3/Iceberg data lake and real-time Postgres RDS service. Collaborating directly with technology, data science, and management teams, you'll solve real customer problems at the intersection of web technology and AI. This position offers the chance to push the boundaries of highly performant and reliable service-based architecture.

Responsibilities:

Work with Product Engineering, Product Management, Tech Ops (Dev Ops), and Data Science to understand and refine service and data requirements, ensuring that services are in-line with architectural and operational needs.
As part of the Data Engineering Team, provide feature and service development and bug resolution for our server and data platforms.
Understand and contribute to our leveraging of AWS services. Evaluate and test new technologies to enhance ForMotiv’s offerings
Provide performance and reliability testing of services and data storage solutions.
Contribute to Data Quality and Data Security initiatives.

Qualifications:

4 year computer science or related degree (highly recommended, but may be waived with relevant experience)
Strong mathematics and problem-solving skills
Experience designing, building and maintaining one or more Data Lakes using AWS infrastructure services including: S3, Lambda/Step Functions, Spark, Glue, Athena (Trino). Experience building and maintaining Apache Iceberg tables is highly desired. Other modern Data Lake table formats are a plus.
6 or more years of SQL experience with multiple dialects. Experience observing and managing database performance is required.
At least 6 years of Python experience is required. This position will spend a significant portion of time coding back-end, data-focused services.
Our DS and Engineering teams use a number of Sagemaker services. Having sagemaker experience is a big plus.
Experience working with containers and other serverless technologies is required.
Machine Learning or Data Science experience (not required but highly desired)
