Position Overview
The Sr. Data Center Engineer is an essential contributor to TIAA’s data center operations, responsible for managing policies, processes, equipment, and infrastructure to ensure optimal performance of mission-critical systems. This position supports all aspects of data center infrastructure, capacity planning, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and prepare data center white space ensuring sufficient power, cooling, airflow, and infrastructure standards.
- Provide IT infrastructure troubleshooting support using a systematic, methodical approach.
- Execute the data center IT asset lifecycle, from installation and maintenance to decommissioning, ensuring PII data is handled per TIAA guidelines.
- Manage network cabling installation, de-installation, and physical hardware setup.
- Oversee cable vendors and operational work requests via ServiceNow, including after-hours support as needed.
- Move equipment, racks, and materials within the data center facility.
- Develop and maintain CAD templates, and establish design standards for high-density deployments.
- Create and distribute reports on data center operations and capacity management.
- Collaborate with engineers to understand VLAN and network infrastructure requirements.
- Perform asset management tasks in CMDB and maintain CAD/DCIM data such as elevations and floorplans.
- Prepare electrical quotes, manage circuit installations, and maintain PDU schedules.
- Act as the primary contact for power, cooling, and connectivity anomalies; perform on-call duties on rotation.
- Research, test, and recommend new technology solutions for data center environments.
- Track inventory and update material counts regularly to ensure accuracy.
- Monitor environmental, security, and equipment systems, responding to alerts and anomalies promptly.
- Partner with corporate services and facilities management vendors to address MEP and data center environmental issues.
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 5 years of experience maintaining and installing mission-critical infrastructure systems in a data center environment.
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure hardware, design, and maintenance.
- Proficiency in DCIM and CAD tools for data center capacity planning.
- Experience providing IT technical support and troubleshooting.
- Solid collaboration and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and collaboration tools such as Teams, SharePoint, and Zoom.
- Ability to work physically in demanding environments.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $45.00 - $50.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
