Purpose of the job :

The Production Operations Engineer is responsible for maintaining an efficient and smooth running production process. The Operations Engineer assists in running and monitoring production jobs

Principal duties and responsibilities:

Ensure all internal operations and production are running smoothly and securely
Ensure proper network performance and access to relevant systems is available to all
Assist in accurately determining deployment procedures in order to minimize or eliminate any possible production outages
Manage backup/recovery with production systems
Create and document new automated monitoring related to new project deployments
Monitor activity and shore up security vulnerabilities
Ensure secure access to production systems.
Run audit reports to assure transaction integrity and delivery
Debug production problems utilizing knowledge of X12 – EDI transaction formats
Debug production problems through usage of SQL
Interface with technical support and development teams in isolating problem
Maintain production activity logs and log all production incidents
Promote and upgrade security policies, making all personnel within the organization are aware of security/privacy issues and cognizant of enforcement responsibility
Consult with other technology teams on site performance, monitoring, and security
Participate in off-hours on-call support rotation
Keep Account Management & Implementation staff aware of problems
Maintain subject matter expertise on new technology as it is added to the environment
Install, configure and maintain LINUX servers in QA and development environments.
Keep current on OS patches, upgrades and software components required for production
Write & maintain operational, monitoring, and deployment documentation.
Document all procedures
Take responsibility for protection of confidentiality, integrity and availability of all information/data residing on our internal systems
Ensure that all personnel within the organization are aware of security/privacy issues and cognizant of their responsibility for enforcement.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

Must be able to coordinate all operational resources; working on assigned (multiple) projects and combine all input to accurately communicate overall operations status
3+ years experience in the following areas:
- Various disciplines of Software Configuration Management
- Scripting languages (shell, perl, etc)
- Use/management of version control tools (VSS, CVS)
- Hands-on SQL based databases
- Linux operating systems
Consistently meets documented deadlines and objectives
Knowledge of SAS 70 certification process helpful
Must be able to work in a highly matrixed environment
Maintain a strong understanding of the configuration and dependencies between the different production and test environments
Assist in accurately determining deployment procedures to minimize or eliminate any possible production outages
Support production applications for internal customers
Proficient in Apache Tomcat, RMI
Must have working knowledge of interaction between servers in a dynamic, multi tier web service environment
Must be a strong team player. Solution-focused, positive, resilient, proactive
Excellent communication skills
Capability to work with aggressive timelines and targets. Flexibility in adjusting schedules to meet demanding deadlines
Capability to coordinate with Development, Project Management, Quality Assurance and Implementation departments
Strong verbal, written, and analytical skills
Excellent troubleshooting and problem diagnostic skills
General knowledge of database administration and systems analysis procedures.
Proficient Windows and Linux operating system skills.
