Data Analyst

Equibase – Lexington, KY

Equibase, the Thoroughbred industry’s official database, is seeking a Data Analyst to join our team. In this role, you’ll work with horse racing data, digital product sales, and industry statistics to deliver insights that guide business decisions. You’ll collaborate with multiple departments, support data integrity, and help maintain our database and reporting systems.

What You’ll Do

Data Analysis & Reporting

Work with the Track Services team to review horse race times (both traditional and GPS), interpret data, analyze results, and provide ongoing reports to management.
Analyze digital product sales across multiple platforms to drive marketing and business development decisions.
Assist with efforts to improve customer analytics and retention by providing data analysis to members of the Marketing and Digital Services teams.
Write basic to intermediate SQL queries for data extraction and analysis.
Create and maintain standard reports and dashboards for management that show trends and patterns utilizing relevant data, enabling them to make important decisions based on these trends.
Perform data validation and cleansing activities.
Support ad-hoc data requests from various departments.

Database Operations & Support

Work with the Data Operations manager to understand and support the company's databases and data collection systems, while working towards strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and data quality.
Support database performance monitoring and basic troubleshooting.
Help maintain data integrity through validation checks and quality assessments.
Assist with setting up new API customers and security protocols.
Document database procedures and maintain system documentation.
Assist with data migration and import/export processes.

Technical Analysis

Identify corrupted data or data outliers and report them to Management.
Use existing statistical tools (or create new ones) that can identify, analyze, and interpret patterns and trends in complex data sets.
Familiarity with database queries, design, and theories.
Ability to work with data architects and other IT specialists to set up, maintain and monitor data networks.
Knowledge of database structure languages, such as SQL or SQL/PS.
Maintain optimal database performance by identifying and resolving production and application development concerns through strategic evaluation and data integration initiatives.

Collaboration & Communication

Work with other analysts and database administrators on project assignments.
Communicate findings and technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Support business users with data-related questions and requests.
Participate in team meetings and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
Collaborate with software development team and other departments on data integration projects.

What We’re Looking For

Bachelor’s degree required (Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Business, or related field preferred).
3–5 years of experience in data analysis preferred.
Strong skills in Excel;
Experience with Microsoft Power BI, MS Access, or Reporting tools within SQL Server (SSIS, SSRS etc.) is preferred
Experience with performance tuning for Microsoft SQL server or Amazon AWS systems (queries, stored procedures, views, etc.) is preferred
Experience with predictive modeling or machine learning (e.g., regression, decision trees, LLMs) preferred.
Knowledge of Thoroughbred racing a plus.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
