Our client is looking for a database engineer with experience in building, testing, delivering, and optimizing enterprise cloud-native, database-driven software, and who is committed to standing up a shippable product as part of a diverse and high-performing team that includes client stakeholders, other software engineers, QA testers, release managers, product managers, and infrastructure engineers. The candidate should be a clever problem solver with a strong understanding of data security, data design, data availability, data persistence principles, and web technology, and who is able to build consensus around workable solutions.

The candidate will have a major role on an Agile development team with impactful contributions to the persistence layer, data repositories, internal engineering processes, and improving data security and performance standards. The product supports a wide range of human services. The ideal candidate should have an engineering mindset, a strong appetite for cutting-edge technological advancements, and enthusiasm for continuous learning. The system follows cloud-native architecture and modern software design patterns with state-of-the-art Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment practices.

Additionally, the candidate will collaborate with design and product teams, including client-facing delivery and implementation for organizations ranging from small nonprofits to large state and local government entities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Design and maintain scalable, secure data models, data pipelines and ingestion frameworks

· Build and optimize ETL/ELT workflows that reliably move, transform, and validate data across systems while enforcing encryption and secure transport.

· Architect and optimize database schemas and storage models, create efficient wellstructured relational or NoSQL schemas; tune indexing, partitioning, caching, and query strategies to ensure fast, cost-effective data access in production.

· Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity across the platform Implement validation rules, reconciliation checks, monitoring, and automated data quality processes to prevent and detect anomalies.

· Adhere and enforce strong data security practices, apply encryption at rest and in transit, access controls, audit logging, data masking, and compliance-focused safeguards that meet regulatory and customer requirements.

· Assist in building and maintaining robust data governance policies, data persistence and backup strategies.

· Monitor and tune the performance of data systems and services, analyze query patterns, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization techniques—including caching, batching, parallelization, or indexing—to maintain high throughput and low latency.

· Identify causes of data inconsistencies, and lead discovery to resolutions, release fix production data

· Assist customer success team addressing data and reporting questions accurately and timely

· Collaborate with product, engineering, and analytics teams to design data models

· Develop automated frameworks for data validation and profiling, create tools and pipelines that measure data completeness, accuracy, freshness, and lineage, and provide visibility to engineering and product teams.

· Ensure data models support product functionality, reporting needs, and analytic workloads while being maintainable, scalable, and performant.

· Maintain databases and tools upgrade and produce clear documentation for datasets, pipelines, models, and transformations; ensure lineage and metadata systems stay current to support debugging, reports, and compliance audits.

· Lead continuous improvements in data reliability and infrastructure, introduce new tools, patterns, and processes to improve data quality, throughput, observability, and cost efficiency; proactively identify risks and implement long-term fixes.

· Strong participation in building microservices features and functionality, writes reusable, testable code and contributes to peer reviews. Anticipates potential issues in their code and designs solutions that balance readability and performance.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

· Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information management or information systems, or equivalent experience

· Candidates should have 5-8 years experience working in data engineering capacity

· Candidates should have first hand experience working with customers and addressing their data reporting questions

· Candidates should have a least 5 years working within a normal size, fast past agile focused software development team

REQUIRED TECHNICAL / OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Exceptional ability to analyze highly normalized and distributed microservices based datasets to deliver lower normalization level warehouse database solution for optimal user reporting experience

· Extensive experience with ETL design and implementation of multiple databases

· Experience with metadata definition, implementation and maintenance

· Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments

· Initiative and judgment to get results, work under pressure and complete job assignments in an accurate, timely and professional manner

· Strong communicator who works well independently and collaboratively, proactively shares updates, and gives and receives constructive feedback with professionalism

· Understanding of system development life cycle, technical project management approaches and requirements, design and test techniques

· Experience with configuration, development, maintenance, optimization and upgrades with PostgreSQL, Redshift or Snowflake required

· Experience in Airflow, DBT, AWS Glue, Databricks, or Snowflake

· Experience with cloud services in data management and analysis, preferably AWS

· Strong experience with distributed platforms and information management systems.

· Subject matter expertises in Business Intelligence toolings and solutions

· Experience with Python, EMR, Athena

· Experience with J ava is required

· Experience with Kafka, ElasticSearch, PostgreSQL, Redis, S3, Redshift is a bonus

· Experience developing Frontend applications with typescript or javascript is a bonus
