Junior Data Engineer

This role is an entry level position requiring the individual to have an inquisitive nature and the aptitude to learn while actively participating in the team’s efforts to provide design recommendations tied to long-term strategy to integrate applications across the business. This individual must be driven and well-organized, with strong problem-solving skills. It is essential for the individual to be self-motivated and tenacious, thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, and complete tasks on agreed schedules.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work within the team to expand and optimize our data and data pipeline.
- Participate in the build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management.
- Analyze and organize raw data.
- Participate in the build and support of data systems and pipelines.
- Work with stakeholders to evaluate business needs and objectives.
- Develop and update code required to meet the requirements of the business.
- Continuously maintain code.
- Support the quality of data sourcing, profiling, standardization, mapping, validation, and documentation.
- Aid the team in evangelizing the value of good data and insights.
- Develop a deep understanding of business intelligence and analytic tools utilized within the Enterprise Data organization.
- Aid in the planning, scoping, and estimation of work efforts as well as the production of quality deliverables.
Minimum Requirements:
- 1 year of experience in a developer or database role with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent transferable experience through coursework, internships, or work experience in lieu of participation in the Elevate Program.
Skills:
- Computer programming experience (preferably in Python).
- Strong business and technology aptitude with a willingness to learn and understand ETL, Data Mining, Data Analysis, and Big Data Structures.
- Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., SQL, Oracle, Db2, Hive, Hbase, etc.).
- Experience with writing SQL queries.
- Experience with object-oriented /object function scripting languages such as Python.
- Experience with Spark.
- Experience with ETL or database programming.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Basic understanding of data quality concepts.
- Strong business and technology aptitude with a willingness to learn and understand business and software solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communications; ability to explain risks and issues clearly and concisely.
- High motivated with strong organizational, analytical, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build strong partnerships and to work collaboratively with all business and IT areas.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities.
- High level of professionalism and confidence with the ability to build credibility with team members and business partners.
