Role Synopsis:
The Senior Data Scientist will lead the development and deployment of advanced data science and machine learning solutions for a utility’s Enterprise Data Science & AI organization. This role requires end-to-end delivery experience, with a strong focus on computer vision models to improve, accelerate, and automate asset inspection processes. The individual will work closely with cross-functional teams including data engineers, machine learning engineers, and business subject matter experts to translate complex data into actionable insights and data products that deliver measurable business value.
Must-Have Requirements:
- Minimum 15 years of professional experience in data science, machine learning, or related fields.
- Strong hands-on experience developing computer vision models, including data labeling, model training, evaluation, and deployment. A detailed write-up of computer vision project experience is required.
- Expertise in Python and R for feature engineering, model building, and data analysis.
- Solid understanding of statistics, mathematical modeling, and machine learning algorithms.
- Experience with software engineering principles and building reproducible, production-ready models.
- Strong ability to synthesize complex information into clear insights and actionable recommendations.
- Experience mentoring and coaching other data scientists in advanced data science and AI/ML techniques.
- Familiarity with data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) from disparate sources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead technical efforts for computer vision model development, from data preparation to training, evaluation, and deployment.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand context, define objectives, and scope modeling work that delivers tangible business value.
- Develop reproducible predictive models using data science and machine learning best practices.
- Act as a peer reviewer of models and analyses developed by other data scientists.
- Create clear, comprehensive documentation for models, experiments, and methodologies.
- Present findings, insights, and recommendations to technical and business stakeholders, including executives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Apply statistical and mathematical expertise to optimize model performance and robustness.
- Mentor, coach, and guide career-level data scientists in AI/ML and computer vision methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications (Optional):
- Experience with cloud-based data science tools, particularly AWS services such as S3, GroundTruth, and SageMaker.
- Hands-on experience in deploying machine learning pipelines in production environments.
- Experience with utility industry datasets and asset management processes.
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Applied Sciences, or related fields.
