Summary
Reporting to the Director of IT Solutions, the Business Intelligence Analyst is responsible for supporting data-driven decision-making through the development, maintenance, and delivery of business intelligence solutions. This role involves acquiring, transforming, and analyzing data from various sources to create reports, dashboards, and visualizations that communicate key business metrics and insights. The analyst collaborates with cross-functional teams to define reporting requirements, ensure data accuracy, and deliver actionable information to stakeholders across the organization.
With a focus on data integrity, governance, and usability, the Business Intelligence Analyst also supports troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and ongoing optimization of BI tools and systems. This position requires proficiency in data querying and visualization tools, a strong understanding of data structures and business processes, and the ability to interpret complex data to inform strategic and operational priorities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct data profiling, validation, and analysis to evaluate data sources and ensure high-quality inputs for BI reporting and transformation efforts.
- Translate business needs into BI solutions by collecting requirements, defining metrics, and building reports, dashboards, and data visualizations for stakeholders at all levels.
- Develop and maintain scalable, actionable dashboards and reporting tools using AWS Quicksight or similar platforms.
- Acquire, clean, and transform data from multiple sources into usable formats, including building algorithms, datasets, and structured data models.
- Create and optimize SQL queries and perform advanced data manipulation for reporting and analysis.
- Support and manage business intelligence tools, databases, and systems; update or enhance existing solutions based on business needs.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and troubleshoot data/reporting issues; ensure timely resolution and communication to stakeholders.
- Test and validate BI solutions to ensure alignment with stakeholder requirements and organizational data standards.
- Monitor and manage the flow of business intelligence information to end-users, ensuring performance, accuracy, and accessibility.
- Establish and uphold data governance policies, data access controls, and data quality standards across BI initiatives.
- Maintain awareness of emerging BI tools and trends while continuously improving technical and analytical skillsets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on data warehouse queries, transformation logic, and development of data lake structures to support analytics needs.
- Mentor and train power users across departments, enabling them to use BI tools effectively and serve as local BI champions.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Lead/mentor those with reporting responsibilities within their functional area.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- 2-4 years of experience in business intelligence and data analysis, including:
- Experience with data modeling and data warehousing, including the creation of highly technical SQL queries, ETL/ELT processes, and data integration tools
- Experience with data visualization tools, such as AWS Quicksight
- Experience working with large datasets and turning complex information into clear visuals and reports
- Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining, data engineering, test and production environment development, and segmentation.
