PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

The Senior Data Engineer / BI Analyst is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data infrastructure and solutions that power business intelligence across the warehouse, orchard, and enterprise functions.

This role focused on ensuring the company data foundation is robust, reliable, and optimized for decision-making. The ideal candidate brings strong database development and integration skills, experience with modern ETL/ELT practices, and the ability to enable reporting/analytics tools like Tableau on top of well-structured data.

This position plays a critical role in advancing the company’s data-driven culture by providing clean, trusted, and timely data for reporting, automation, and advanced analytics.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Design, develop, and maintain scalable data models and ETL pipelines that integrate data from multiple systems (ERP, WMS, Azure SQL, HighJump, etc.).
Optimize and manage relational databases to ensure performance, reliability, and data integrity.
Partner with business leaders to identify critical data needs and engineer backend solutions to support BI analytics.
Establish and enforce data governance, quality, and security standards across the enterprise.
Develop and maintain the semantic layer and curated datasets for BI consumption.
Automate data workflows, replacing manual processes with sustainable, data-driven solutions.
Support the design and deployment of Tableau dashboards, while focusing primarily on the backend data engineering that makes reporting possible.
Mentor junior analysts in SQL, data modeling, and BI best practices.
Stay current with emerging technologies in cloud data platforms, integration tools, and BI/analytics.

LEADERSHIP & STRATEGIC IMPACT

Act as a trusted data architect and advisor to leadership, ensuring the company has the right data foundation for growth.
Lead cross-functional data initiatives, ensuring collaboration between IT, operations, and analytics.
Champion a “single source of truth” by standardizing KPIs and ensuring consistent reporting.
Promote a culture of data literacy and self-service analytics, empowering teams to make informed decisions.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

5+ years of experience in data engineering, database development, or BI engineering (agriculture, food, or supply chain industries preferred).
Strong expertise in SQL and relational database design (Azure SQL, SQL Server, or Oracle).
Hands-on experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines (SSIS, Azure Data Factory, dbt, or similar).
Solid understanding of data warehousing principles (star/snowflake schemas, fact/dimension modeling).
Proficiency with BI tools (Tableau preferred) but with emphasis on back-end data preparation over dashboarding.
Experience with process automation and workflow orchestration.
Ability to distill technical concepts into actionable insights for leadership.
Strong collaboration, communication, and mentoring skills.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) required.
Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
