We are seeking a Lead Data Engineer to guide a team in designing and delivering modern, enterprise-scale data solutions and modernizing integrated data analytics platforms. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring data systems are robust, scalable, and aligned with best practices. The Lead Data Engineer will serve as a subject matter expert (SME), translating complex requirements into actionable solutions and driving execution across multiple data workflows and platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team through the research, design, and implementation of large-scale data projects involving multiple data models, mappings, and workflows
- Act as SME for data engineering best practices, data usage, and data meaning across the organization
- Serve as the primary contact for team priorities, deliverables, and technical decision-making
- Design and deliver robust end-to-end integration solutions, leveraging test-driven development and modern coding practices
- Develop new ETL/ELT processes to integrate data from diverse systems into target environments
- Conduct unit testing to ensure reliability and accuracy of solutions
- Design and implement advanced data models, including star schemas, data vault, and slowly changing dimensions
- Work with stakeholders to ensure data flows support business intelligence, analytics, and downstream use cases
Required Skills:
- 7+ years of professional experience in data engineering, with at least 2+ years in a lead or SME capacity
- Strong experience with data warehousing concepts and techniques (Kimball, Inmon, DDS, ODS, star schemas, SCDs, data vault modeling)
- Expert-level SQL skills, including relational modeling (3NF), DDL vs. DML, ACID transactions, and query performance optimization
- Proven ability to translate technical requirements into clean, maintainable code
- Senior-level experience with Snowflake and Azure cloud technologies
- Senior-level proficiency with JavaScript for data engineering and integration tasks
- Experience with non-relational/NoSQL data stores
- Familiarity with data engineering best practices, including test-driven development and unit testing
- Strong data modeling expertise across multiple methodologies
- Self-starter with demonstrated ability to lead a team, prioritize work, and deliver solutions in a collaborative environment
