Job Description
The Global Services Department is a service organization dedicated to supporting leaders, members, and the workforce.
The Data Scientist 1 position supports the Global Service Department (GSD) in its mission to invite souls unto Christ by providing insightful analysis and support for GSD reporting tools and products. Responsibilities include developing reports, analyzing data, and designing dashboard solutions tailored to end-user needs. The role involves working both independently and collaboratively to deliver reporting solutions ranging from simple to complex, utilizing platforms such as Business Objects, Tableau, Power BI, and Microsoft Access. Additionally, the position conducts User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for deliverables completed by ICS or the Global Services Department.
Under the current Alternative Work Arrangement (AWA) for this position, the incumbent is required to work at least 1 day in the office each week (may be more based on business needs); therefore, must live close. Please note that this hybrid arrangement is subject to an approval process and may change at any time based upon business, team, division, and department needs.

Responsibilities
The Data Scientist will work with structured data from single source and will provide strategic data models using machine learning algorithms to deepen insights. This person will be analytical with the ability to communicate, interpret and visualize the outcomes for the Department.
- Understand the Data
- Defining what the data is, where it is coming from, how it will be captured, and how it will be received
- Organize the Data
- Address usability, data modeling & structuring, aggregation, and statistical validity
- Configuring Data for Accessing
- Channeling the data to where it is needed, for predictive/statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and forecasting
- Reporting
- Using business requirements to tell the story, developing dashboards & reports that are actionable and measurable
- Security & User Acceptance
- Audience access, viewing including how the data will be received, communications, instruction on data use
- Outcomes/Insights
- Data that enables business leaders to make informed decisions
Non-Responsibilities
- Data warehousing and architecture
Qualifications
Required:
- BS/BA Degree in data science, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a related field
- Minimum 0-2 years performing Data Scientist or related role
- Knowledge of R, SQL and Python; familiarity with Scala, Java is an asset
- Experience using business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau) and data frameworks
- Understanding of machine-learning and operations research
- Works with moderate oversight and meets established deadlines
- Delivers defined projects with frequent oversight
- Problem solving, debugging/troubleshooting and the designing and implementation of solutions to complex technical issues
- Thrive in both a team environment and as an individual contributor
- Inherent curiosity while applying scientific methodology to learning and discovery
- Effective Data Visualization and teaching
Preferred
- Data Analytics
- Data Science or AI/Machine Learning Certification
