Here's a Summary Of Responsibilities

The Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the technical foundations of the USOPC’s enterprise data ecosystem. This role focuses on creating scalable, reliable data pipelines, models, and architectures that ensure data is accessible, high-quality, and actionable for reporting, analytics, and operational use.

The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in modern data engineering practices, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate with both technical and business stakeholders. This role is essential to advancing the USOPC’s enterprise data strategy and enabling data-driven decision making across the organization.

Here’s How You’ll Have An Impact

Data Architecture & Engineering

Design, develop, and maintain efficient and scalable data pipelines that ingest, transform, and store large volumes of structured and unstructured data from various sources.
Design, build, implement, and maintain data models, schemas, and architecture to support analytical needs and reporting requirements.
Implement data processing solutions, including ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, data normalization, and data enrichment.
Optimize storage, compute, and processing for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
Monitor system health and proactively troubleshoot performance bottlenecks or data quality issues.

Data Quality, Governance, & Security

Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability through validation frameworks and monitoring.
Adhere to data governance, security, and compliance requirements, including privacy and regulatory standards.
Partner with data owners and business stakeholders to implement governance initiatives, ensuring alignment on definitions, quality standards, and stewardship practices.
Document processes, pipelines, and models to ensure maintainability and transparency.
Support the adoption of coding standards, reusability practices, and design patterns across the team.

Collaboration and Communication

Partner with analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver scalable solutions.
Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences.
Participate in cross-functional initiatives to align data engineering with enterprise strategy and evolving business needs.
Provide technical support and consultation on data access, pipeline enhancements, and reporting capabilities.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

Stay current on emerging data technologies, frameworks, and industry best practices.
Identify opportunities to enhance automation, scalability, and system resilience.
Pilot and evaluate new tools or approaches to improve data integration, transformation, and delivery.
Foster a culture of experimentation, accountability, and knowledge-sharing within the engineering team.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Here are the skills and experience you'll need to be effective:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineer, Information Technology, or a related field.
3-5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of data architecture and database management
Experience designing, developing, and maintaining pipelines and architectures in cloud environments (e.g., Snowflake, AWS, GCP, Azure)
Experience with ETL/ELT frameworks, workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, dbt), and API-based integrations
Proficiency in SQL and one or more programming languages (Python, Scala, Java)
Familiarity with data governance, security, and compliance frameworks
Strong collaboration and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work across technical and non-technical teams
Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI)
Experience in the sports industry or with sports-related data is a plus
Ability to provide input to optimize current databases and queries
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a detail-oriented mindset
Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment

Here's Some More Information You Need To Know

Hiring pay range $80,000 - $105,000 per year
This Full-Time, Exempt position is intended to work 40 hours per week.
Bonus: This position will be eligible for the Annual Incentive Award Program, which has a 10% target. The USOPC may change or eliminate this program at any time at its sole discretion.
