About The Role
We are seeking an accomplished
Principal Full Stack Engineer to lead the design and development of mission-critical trading, risk, and analytics platforms at a leading hedge fund. This role is central to building the systems that power research, execution, and portfolio management across global markets. You will architect solutions that combine high-performance backend services with intuitive frontend tools, enabling researchers, traders, and risk managers to make faster, smarter decisions.
As a senior technical leader, you’ll define technical direction, mentor engineers, and collaborate with quantitative researchers and portfolio managers. You’ll work across the entire technology stack, from ultra-low-latency services to rich web applications, ensuring our systems are robust, secure, and performant. This is a hands-on role with the opportunity to make a direct impact on trading strategies and investment outcomes.
What You’ll Do
- Architect & Scale Systems: Design and evolve trading, risk, and research platforms with a focus on performance, fault tolerance, and security.
- Build Full Stack Applications: Develop high-performance backend services (Python, Java, or C++) alongside modern frontend interfaces (React/TypeScript).
- Collaborate with Quants: Work closely with quantitative researchers, portfolio managers, and data scientists to translate models into production systems.
- Optimize for Speed & Reliability: Ensure systems meet the demands of low-latency trading and real-time risk monitoring.
- Mentor Engineers: Guide a team of senior engineers, set best practices, and foster a culture of technical excellence.
- Operational Ownership: Champion observability, incident management, and continuous improvement to maintain world-class reliability.
What We’re Looking For
- Extensive Experience: 10+ years of building and scaling distributed, service-oriented systems; 3+ years in a leadership or staff role.
- Languages: Expertise in Python, Java, or C++ with strong skills in JavaScript/TypeScript for modern web development.
- Financial Systems Exposure: Experience with trading platforms, risk systems, or market data infrastructure preferred.
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Strong experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure; containerization with Docker and Kubernetes; Infrastructure as Code.
- Data Systems: Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases, messaging systems (Kafka, Pulsar), and real-time streaming.
- Security Mindset: Knowledge of best practices in authentication, encryption, and secure software development for financial systems.
- Collaboration: Ability to partner with researchers, traders, and operations teams to deliver solutions that meet business goals.
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
