Job Summary

The Corporate Automation Project Engineer is responsible for providing engineering expertise and project management leadership in the areas of automation and process controls for Inline’s thermoforming operations, by taking advantage of existing automation/process control technologies, or developing entirely new systems, in pursuit of improvements in product quality, efficiency, scrap, and productivity.

Responsibilities

Develop, maintain and improv Works closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations at all locations to explore and understand opportunities for implementing automation/process controls that will improve quality, efficiency, scrap, efficiency, and reduce the risk of employee injuries due to repetitive tasks.
Develops and maintains all documentation for automation/controls projects, including Action Lists with responsibility assignments, prioritization, and timing, as well as CAPEX Project documents including detailed explanations of the project, cost/benefit analysis, ROI’s, associated risks, etc. Presents automation/controls projects to all levels of the organization up to the CEO. Actively leads automation/controls projects across the company.
Develops concepts and designs automation and controls systems individually or with the help of outside automation companies.
Develops layouts of automation integrated into existing buildings and machines using CAD software.
Manages and leads external automation and controls suppliers through the entire development process from scoping, ideation, design, fabrication, installation, and startup, including cost management, billing, etc.
Serves as the primary point of contact across all manufacturing plants, in standardizing the use of automation and control systems, including PLC’s, Robots, Servos, Vision Systems, etc.
Provides training and troubleshooting expertise for newly installed automation and control systems.
Travels to automation and control vendor sites to lead and participate in the design, fabrication, and testing of new equipment.
Travels to Inline plants to participate in the development and implementation of automation and controls systems.
Maintains up to date insight into the latest developments in automation, robotics, and controls.
Acts as a technical resource to other engineering groups for the design and deployment of new equipment and processes.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Recommend improved EH&S practices.
Practices safe work habits and follows general safety procedures such as proper lifting and bending, ergonomics, proper use of equipment and use of personal protection equipment (PPE).

Product Safety and Quality

Follows Product Safety and Quality standards.
Follows GMP’s in regard to food contact packaging as it pertains to the employee.
Follows IPC product defense standards and complies with all SQF requirements.

Minimum Requirements (include education, experience, special skills, licenses and/or certifications required.) Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in mechanical or electrical engineering, or a related technical field.
Knowledge of mechanical equipment design and operations required, with a minimum of 4 years of experience.
Knowledge of electrical controls design and operation required, with a minimum of 4 years of experience.
Proficiency with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) operations required, including the capability to create and monitor PLC programs, with a minimum of 4 years of experience.
Knowledge of automation equipment design and operations required, with a minimum of 4 years of experience.
Project Management proficiency in leading medium to large projects required, with a minimum of 4 years of experience.
Capital Project Management proficiency in leading medium to large projects required, with a minimum of 4 years of experience.
Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or other drawing software required.
Proficient in Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Microsoft Project software a plus.
English speaking. Read, analyze, and interpret common industrial, manufacturing and technical procedures, professional journals, schematics, diagrams, drawings, and blueprints.
