Data Scientist

Impact

As a member of the Logistics Platform team, you’ll help build next-generation systems that use cutting-edge technology and advanced mathematics to forecast, optimize, diagnose, and improve Shipt’s order offering and surge pay systems.

We are seeking candidates who are excited about wearing multiple hats and working cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and product teams to bring real solutions to market, iterating from imperfect MVPs through rapid experimentation and development. This position will require a combination of building systems and performing analytical tasks.

In this role you will work with Python and SQL enhance and optimize efficient ML services including data pipeline development, automation, model versioning and deployment. You will identify optimal surge pay and order offering decisions through research and experimentation, and turn data insights into action by generating ad-hoc research, automated dashboards and ETL pipelines.

What You’ll Need to Be Successful

2+ years of experience with mathematical optimization, economics, or statistical modeling
Professional proficiency in a high-level programming language (we use Python)
Strong professional experience with SQL skills (we use Snowflake)
Experience with common ML algorithms and frameworks
Proficiency with engineering best practices such as load testing, test-driven development, and real-time monitoring
Bachelor’s or higher degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field

Work Arrangement

Shipt considers candidates located near a Shipt office or workspace in Birmingham, San Francisco, or Minneapolis to be hybrid, which means that they have the flexibility to work from home (with leader approval) or at a Shipt office in order to facilitate the ability to innovate, collaborate, and spark team connections. In-office expectations will vary by role and leader. Certain roles may require in-office presence on a full-time basis. Other compensation includes eligibility for an annual bonus and the potential for restricted stock units based on role.

Pay Range:

Metro Areas of Boston, District of Columbia, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and New York City:

$83,300-$166,800

All other locations:

$73,900-$147,900

Please note that the salary range above is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location.
