Role Description
This is a contract on-site/remote role located in Houston, TX for a Data Engineer - ETL & AI. Saltec is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to design, build, and optimize modern data solutions that power decision-making across our clients’ operations. This role will focus on enterprise-scale ELT pipelines, AI-driven analytics, and dashboard development leveraging Microsoft Fabric and other leading platforms. The ideal candidate brings both a strong engineering background and hands-on experience applying AI/ML techniques to large, complex datasets.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and maintain scalable ELT workflows for large, complex datasets.
- Design and implement data models, semantic layers, and pipelines in Microsoft Fabric to enable self-service analytics.
- Build, optimize, and support dashboards and reporting solutions that deliver actionable insights to business stakeholders.
- Develop and deploy AI/ML models that enhance forecasting, pattern recognition, and decision support.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into reliable, data-driven and AI-enabled solutions.
- Ensure data quality, governance, and performance tuning across large databases.
- Apply best practices in software engineering, including code versioning, testing, and automation.
- Continuously evaluate emerging AI, big data, and cloud technologies to improve architecture and analytics delivery.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering or related field.
- Proven expertise with Microsoft Fabric (Data Factory, Data Engineering, Power BI integration, Power Query ).
- Strong background with large-scale relational and non-relational databases (SQL Server, Snowflake, Databricks, etc.).
- Proficiency in coding for data engineering (Python, SQL, or similar).
- Hands-on experience building end-to-end ELT pipelines, AI/ML workflows, and production dashboards.
- Familiarity with common AI/ML frameworks is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on performance, scalability, and automation.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical and AI-driven solutions to non-technical stakeholders.

- Ability to work effectively remote or on-site in Houston, TX
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field is preferred
