What are Trust Fund Positions?
Trust Fund positions are unique to the Smithsonian. They are paid for from a variety of sources, including the Smithsonian endowment, revenue from our business activities, donations, grants and contracts. Trust employees are not part of the civil service, nor does trust fund employment lead to Federal status. The salary ranges for trust positions are generally the same as for federal positions and in many cases trust and federal employees work side by side. This position is located organizationally in Engagement Solutions, Office of Digital and Innovation (ODI), Office of the Deputy Secretary, Smithsonian Institution (SI). Develops, documents, promulgates and maintains CRM data management policies and procedures, and strategies for data quality integrity.
- Develops, tests, and maintains data pipelines and automations and ensures they meet standards for data availability, quality and integrity.
- Drives automation of processes, develops new applications, and manages the integrations of the CRM system.
- Maintains the data dictionary for all CRM data elements and ensures that each instance of the data complies with corresponding data validation rules.
- Cleanse and enhances CRM data through data services and processes that append, unify, validate and enrich data (e.g. Address verification, demographic data appends, deduplication, email and phone verification, etc)
- Ensures data availability and usability, optimizes performance and facilitates modern data analytics and reporting.
- Ensures technologies, software, and data management methodologies are adapted to meet CRM data and reporting requirements.
- Leads and participates in SI-wide projects to assure the continued integrity of the CRM database and the reliability, timeliness and utility of data provided by the system.
Experience required for this position is as follows:
- Mastery knowledge of complex CRMs, Cloud Data Management tools and other databases including Salesforce, Oracle, Peoplesoft, Redshift, Glue, Athena, and Snowflake
- Mastery knowledge of and skill in implementing data integration processes and patterns to append, unify, validate, and enrich data
- Mastery knowledge of and skill in data modeling, warehousing, quality management, workflow automation, ETL, and database management systems
- Expert skill running data conversions and quickly understanding complex data sets.
- Expert skill in data engineering processes
- Experience in using Apache Spark, SQL, Python, R, T-SQL, and KQL.
- Knowledge of and skill in implementing CI/CD pipelines for automating data engineering processes
- Expert knowledge of trends and best practices in data management in order to recommend their utility in a CRM system.
- Experience applying project planning and control techniques to successfully manage, control and evaluate overall data cleanup efforts in a CRM.
- Strong communication and technical writing skills
- Preferred: Experience working in Nonprofit and/or Federal environments
