The Actuarial Enterprise Data & Solutions Team is a dynamic, growing team at Arch. This team implements innovative insurance pricing models and analytical tools created by the actuarial department to improve profitability and growth across a wide range of Property & Casualty insurance products.
The VP, Data Engineer, will implement complex databases and data pipelines that put analytics at the heart of real-time decision-making. They will collaborate closely with leaders across the company on high-profile analytics projects that drive business strategies. They will provide technical leadership, champion best engineering practices, and optimize resource utilization to deliver scalable, high-quality data solutions. As a key member of the Actuarial Enterprise Data & Solutions implementation engineering team, they will advance our implementation capabilities and help our team deliver solutions faster.
This role is open to a hybrid schedule (2 days in the office), for candidates in New York, NY, Raleigh, NC, Hartford, CT, Chicago, IL, St, Paul, MN, or Jersey City, NJ. This role is also open to remote for those outside of these locations.
Job Responsibilities

Work with strategic partners to solve business problems by directing the development of best-in-class data solutions

Lead and mentor mid-level and junior team members to develop best-in-class data solutions that solve complex business challenges in partnership with strategic stakeholders

Direct operations and resources to deliver data solutions

Manage data engineering throughout the project lifecycle

Build strong partnerships with peers across the organization to support data-related goals

Proactively design intuitive data structures by anticipating analytic needs

Explore modern technologies and data sources with curiosity and creativity

Leverage technology to automate data ingestion and link external and internal data

Provide the appropriate documentation of sources and technical solutions

Prioritize competing priorities across portfolios and resources

Contribute to and promote the adoption of evolving best practices

Continuously advance team capabilities and workflows
Required Skills/Experience
-
10+ years of data engineering experience
-
5+ years managing a team
Desired Skills/Experience

Demonstrated experience building data structures to support analytics/research/actuarial functions in an insurance company setting

Experience with cloud technologies like Snowflake and Databricks

Familiarity with the MLOps framework

Ability to operate independently – managing tasks and engaging people across the team

Exceptional collaboration and relationship building skills

Comfortable handling ambiguous concepts and breaking down complex problems into manageable pieces

Strong data manipulation skills for analytics

Resilient problem solving and critical thinking skills

Thorough understanding of data warehousing concepts and design

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for technical and non-technical audiences, including senior executives

Education

College degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, or equivalent

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.
For JC/NYC: $174,800 - $236,040/year
For Chicago, Hartford, St. Paul: $157,400 - $212,436/year
Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
