Associate Fraud Strategy Data Scientist
Pay Rate: $45–$50/hr (W2)
Location: San Jose, CA (Hybrid Preferred)
Duration: 12-Month Contract | Full-Time (40 hrs/week)
About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Fraud Strategy Data Scientist to join our risk analytics team. In this role, you will leverage data science, analytics, and statistical modeling to detect and prevent fraud while maintaining a seamless experience for customers. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to design, test, and deploy scalable fraud prevention strategies.
What We’re Looking For
- Up to 2 years of experience in risk analytics, data analysis, or data science within eCommerce, online payments, user trust/risk/fraud, or product abuse.
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Mining, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Proven ability to apply statistics and data science to solve complex business problems.
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, and Excel, including key data science libraries.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience handling large datasets.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex analytical results to both technical and non-technical audiences, including executives.
- Comfortable working in ambiguous environments and driving projects toward clear, measurable outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to make data-driven decisions that lead to meaningful business impact.
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms.
- Understanding of fraud investigations, payment rule systems, ML model integration, and fraud typologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement rules and strategies to detect and mitigate fraud.
- Develop Python scripts and models that support fraud prevention initiatives.
- Investigate complex or novel fraud cases and identify root causes.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to improve control systems and analytical capabilities.
- Develop and present actionable fraud strategy recommendations to stakeholders.
- Create and maintain dashboards and visualizations (e.g., Tableau) to track key performance indicators and strategy effectiveness.
Expected Outcomes (6–12 Months)
- Partner with stakeholders to design and manage fraud strategies that respond to emerging threats while enhancing customer experience.
- Utilize data analysis to design, test, and refine fraud detection models and rules.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to deploy real-time, data-driven fraud solutions.
- Present findings and business recommendations to leadership and other stakeholders.
- Develop dashboards and visualizations to monitor performance metrics and fraud strategy KPIs.
