Amentum is seeking a JR Software Engineer to join our team of passionate individuals in Hanover, MD. In this role you will support challenging, mission-critical projects that make a direct impact on the Nation’s security and intelligence mission.
Our contract supports more than 12 efforts with varying levels of hardware and software development requirements. Our projects are focused on front end equipment configuration/maintenance, back-end repositories, front end dashboards, as well as everything in between for the full data processing thread. Our teams can range from one to two developers to a team of 12. All of our teams work right alongside our customer to discuss requirements, identify solutions, and choose the way forward for implementation. As part of an engineering office, our customer and our workforce look and plan for future expectations- continuously trying to stay ahead of the next challenge.
The team that this position is for has a total of two software engineers: a senior software engineer and the candidate applying here. The project is centered around providing a software package that bundles various signals analysis tools together for mission end users. Our application is deployed to field sites remotely. This direct deployment provides our end users a chance to provide immediate feedback on the application. This team sits predominantly in our contractor SCIF, but periodically access the customer site for meetings and technical collaborations.
The software engineer develops, maintains, and enhances complex and diverse software systems (e.g. processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real time systems, and business management information systems) based upon documented requirements. Works individually or as part of a team. Reviews and tests software components for adherence to the design requirements and documents test results. Resolves software problem reports. Utilizes software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment. Provides specific input to the software components of system design to include hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, use of Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS)/Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) in place of new development, and requirements analysis and synthesis from system level to individual software components.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements
- Design and code new software or modifies existing software to add new features
- Debug existing software and corrects defects
- Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments
- Develop simple data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories
- Make recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards
Requirements:
- One or more year of Java programming experience or development of presentation tiers
- Familiarity with JavaScript and spring is desired
- Experience with JSP and servlet programming
- Experience with JEE and enterprise web application design and development
- Experience designing and writing REST-ful applications
- Ability to create and deploy applications in an Apache tomcat web server
- Experience programming on Linux platforms
- Experience using one or more of the following revision control applications: git, Subversion (SVN), CVS, ClearCase
- Familiarity with Perl, Oracle, mySQL, and/or PL/SQL
- Must have active Top-Secret clearance with SCI with Poly
- No experience required if you have a bachelor’s degree in a technical field.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline, or an additional 4 years of experience. Familiarity with MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Project and Visio
- Exceptional attention to detail; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong critical thinking, organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment
Clearance Required:
- Must have active Top-Secret clearance with SCI with Poly
Minimum Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, or an additional four (4) years of experience.
Minimum Years of Experience:
- Software Engineer Level 0: 0 - 7 years of experience
