Our Software Engineer Summer Internship has been crafted so that you can understand what a career in the Post Trade Solutions (PTS) engineering team at LSEG would really be like. In the internship you will work on projects solving real problems and work as part of a team with experienced engineers.
This position is within the Optimisation Core Technology Team, part of the Post Trade Engineering division based in New York or London office.
To be eligible, you should be in the penultimate year of your undergraduate or final year of an Undergraduate degree and plan to continue onto Masters for academic year 2026/27 studying Computer Science, Engineering, or any other relevant tech field.
Internship Summary
The Core Technology team creates the systems that deliver the optimisation services to clients. It is this team’s responsibility to design and build systems that permit financial market participants to securely provide risk and trade data to the company, to deliver that data to the optimisation services developed by the financial engineers, and to return the output of those computations safely back to the participants in a timely manner. In addition, the systems should provide feedback to the clients to help them understand the results as well as how they can modify their parameters and data to gain improvements in the future. Our systems live in the cloud, hosted by AWS, and leverage lambdas, EC2, RDS, and Redshift.
The successful candidate will work as part of a team of 5-10 engineers to build and research improvements to the applications & environment. They will work directly with the Product Development team to enhance the services based on feedback from clients and analysis of runs as well as on strategic projects.
Examples of possible projects, which involve writing software in python, include:
- Designing and building a new workflow to run data quality (DQ) checks on financial data submitted by the clients
- Collaborate with the Analytics team to leverage their pricing algorithms in our DQ checks
- Building the internal portal screens used by the Product team to perform the optimisations
- Implement the code providing connectivity to external booking systems, trade stores, etc.
- Enhance our task queueing system to improve resource utilisation
What we are looking for: We are passionate about recruiting people who are interested in pursuing a career within Financial Engineering and would like to learn about the full breadth of our business – and are interested in playing a part of our development, as it grows and diversifies.
- Solid understanding of python for executable & repeatable programs (as opposed to data analytics). Affinity to PyData stack is preferred.
- Someone who can collaborate with others, using their communication skills in the process.
- A curiosity for data and an ability to analyse information to draw conclusions and propose solutions.
- Familiarity with UNIX command line
- Some experience with AWS and/or frontend development is a plus
- Ideal candidates will have the rights to work in the London or New York City without restrictions for the duration of the internship programme
You will stand out to us if you can demonstrate and recognise that what you achieve is equally important as how you achieve it.
Applications close: 23 November, we recommend an early application because we consider candidates on a rolling basis and may close applications early.
