Data Modeling Engineer, SDTM Development and Operations
About This Role
The Data Modeling Engineer will be part of the Clinical Modeling SDTM Development and Operations organization that is constantly evolving and responsible for fulfilling all of Biogen’s clinical data standardization needs with presence in the Unites States and Europe. This will be a hybrid position in Cambridge, MA.
What You’ll Do
Biogen is seeking a highly skilled AI Engineer to drive the future of our clinical trial data standardization process. In this role, you will be responsible for creating and implementing advanced data modeling techniques that standardize our clinical trial data to meet industry standards such as SDTM and ADaM. You will also play a key role in improving our data modeling ecosystem, collaborating with the head of data modeling to create solutions that significantly boost efficiency, speed up data analysis, and shorten database lock times.
Who You Are
- An AI Engineer proficient in designing and fine-tuning transformer-based and LLM architectures for domain-specific AI solutions.
- Skilled in developing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems and AI agents capable of contextual reasoning, information extraction, and task automation.
- Experienced in end-to-end AI application development, including data pipelines, model integration, and intelligent workflow orchestration.
- Someone who is passionate about data, data structures, data transformations and taking/learning about initiatives using Analytics to optimize the transformation of clinical data.
Required Skills
- Master’s degree in AI or related field with a focus on AI
- 1+ years relevant work experience with a focus on NLP, RAG & AI Agents
- Proficient in Python, PyTorch, Langchain, Hugging Face, numpy, pandas, and related ML/NLP frameworks.
- Strong grasp of SDLC principles, modular architecture, and collaborative development using Git/GitHub
- Applications of AI in the Pharmaceutical/biotechnology/CRO industry experience is a plus
- Working cross functionally with stakeholders

Additional Information
The base compensation range for this role is: $83,000.00-$102,000.00
Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
