Project Overview
The Technology Solutions Office (TSO), led by the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), supports the judiciary with strategic guidance, technology development, technical standards, policies, planning, and significant research and development efforts. The mission of the TSO is to deliver AI-enabled technology solutions to help the Federal Judiciary reduce costs and risks, improve the effectiveness of judicial operations, and enable new capabilities through experimentation, validation, and concept development. TSO applies Agile Scrum practices and follows modern software development practices, including AI/ML model lifecycle management and advanced data analytics.
Job Responsibilities
- Elicit and understand the client’s business needs and mission, define AI/ML and data-driven solution requirements, write user stories, and manage a product backlog focused on AI capabilities and data products.
- Study existing business processes, programs, and/or legacy systems to identify AI use cases and opportunities for automation, insight generation, and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, and MLOps teams to define functional and non-functional requirements for AI models and data pipelines.
- Analyze and design proposed AI/ML solutions while facilitating the development of multiple solution options to address business needs.
- Support AI model evaluation by defining success criteria, validating performance against business expectations, and documenting outcomes.
- Work with developers and test engineers to ensure AI and data-driven solutions meet both functional requirements and compliance standards (Responsible AI, data privacy, fairness).
- Act as a primary liaison between business stakeholders, AI/ML engineering teams, and IT partners throughout the AI model development lifecycle.
- Facilitate the reconciliation of business needs with AI model capabilities, managing expectations and communicating limitations and risks of AI systems.
- Prepare and maintain AI-related project documentation, including model documentation, data flow diagrams, user stories, UAT scenarios, business process documents, and meeting artifacts.
- Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and champion business readiness for adopting AI-powered capabilities.
- Continuously monitor AI trends and best practices to inform project planning and solution development.
- Other similar professional duties may be assigned as needed.
Requirements / Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience working as a Business Analyst with Agile teams
- 2+ years of experience on AI, Machine Learning, or Data Science projects preferred.
- Proven ability to elicit, analyze, and translate business requirements into actionable AI solution requirements.
- Experience supporting the full AI solution lifecycle (data acquisition, model training, validation, deployment, monitoring).
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, data engineers, ML engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders.
- Experience writing user stories, grooming product backlog, and supporting release planning for AI/ML or data-driven products.
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts (machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, data pipelines).
- Experience working with MLOps tools and understanding of AI governance and ethical AI considerations is a plus.
- Strong understanding of the Agile software development lifecycle and iterative delivery models.
- Hands-on experience with JIRA, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and business process modeling tools (Visio, Lucidchart).
- Relevant experience working with data-centric applications and modern data technologies.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business management, information systems, computer science, or related field
