The Role
We're looking for a Frontend Engineer, Developer Experience to build the customer-facing products that define how developers interact with HIFI. From our Developer Dashboard to SDKs and integration tooling, you’ll create performant, elegant, and reliable interfaces that make our infrastructure accessible at scale.
This role combines technical excellence with strong product sensibility. You’ll obsess over speed, quality, and usability — building design systems, crafting efficient build environments, and ensuring flawless monitoring and testing. You’ll partner closely with design and product but will be expected to exercise strong taste and product judgment in your own right.
This role is based in-person in New York, working closely with our small team across engineering and GTM.
What You'll Do
Developer-Facing Experiences
- Build and maintain the Developer Dashboard, SDKs, and tooling used by customers to integrate with HIFI.
- Develop responsive, high-performance web and mobile applications that handle mission-critical workflows.
- Design and implement reusable design systems and component libraries.
- Ensure usability and accessibility standards are met across all developer-facing surfaces.
Technical Excellence
- Create fast build environments that optimize for developer velocity and reliability.
- Write comprehensive tests and maintain high-quality codebases.
- Implement robust monitoring and alerting systems to catch and resolve issues quickly.
- Continuously improve application performance, scalability, and security.
Product & Design Collaboration
- Work with the Engineering and GTM teams to translate business requirements into elegant user experiences.
- Contribute to product strategy by advocating for developer needs and surfacing insights from your experience building tools.
- Exercise good design taste, with an emphasis on simplicity and clarity in developer-facing products.
Systems & Scale
- Build frontend systems that can support global usage and billions in transaction volume.
- Develop frameworks and SDKs that simplify integration with HIFI APIs.
- Anticipate future product requirements and architect solutions that scale.
What We're Looking For
Technical Expertise
- 3+ years of experience building production-grade frontend applications.
- Strong proficiency in modern frontend technologies (React, TypeScript, Next.js, React Native or similar).
- Deep understanding of performance optimization, caching strategies, and frontend architecture.
- Experience building design systems and component libraries.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, testing frameworks, and monitoring tools.
Product Sensibility
- Strong product mindset — you think about the user journey, not just the code.
- Ability to balance speed, performance, and design quality.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to product decisions, not just implement them.
Systems & Scale Thinking
- Experience setting up and maintaining high-velocity developer environments.
- Understanding of how frontend systems interact with APIs, infrastructure, and backend services.
- Comfort working in fast-moving, high-stakes environments where your work directly impacts enterprise customers.
Bonus
- Experience with payments, fintech, or developer platforms.
- Prior experience in an early-stage company or high-growth environment.
