Job Summary
Sunderstorm is leading the technology charge in cannabis, one of the most exciting and fast moving industries today. We are expanding rapidly both domestically and internationally, and our technology team plays a critical role in keeping us ahead of the curve. We are seeking a full stack Software Engineer to join our team, reporting to the Data Science & Systems Manager, who will maintain and enhance critical internal tools while also taking on new projects that drive innovation and efficiency across the company.
This role is designed for someone who thrives on variety and creativity. You will work on tools that are core to our operations, such as production scheduling automation, Slack based applications, and user friendly ERP interfaces that allow non technical users to interact with Acumatica. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to create new solutions including integrations and custom AI applications, exploring ideas that make our systems smarter, faster, and more connected. Many of your projects will be self driven, giving you the space to learn new technologies and propose tools or features that improve how we work.
This is a hands-on full stack development position with exposure to backend and frontend technologies and cloud environments including AWS and GCP. You will partner with the Data Science Manager to shape priorities and may collaborate with the Analytics Engineer when data requirements are needed for web tools or features. If you enjoy solving problems, building creative solutions, and having a direct impact on a growing and innovative business, this role will give you the freedom to own projects, explore ideas, and make a difference.
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
● Design, build, and maintain innovative cross-platform integrations and agentic AI applications, applying production best practices to drive growth and efficiency.
● Optimize and elevate existing internal tools including production scheduling automation, Slack‑based applications, and Acumatica ERP interfaces by delivering efficient, high‑quality front‑end UI/UX that streamlines user workflows
● Build and maintain Python backend services and APIs (FastAPI/Flask, GraphQL/REST) with background workers and queues (Kafka/RabbitMQ/Redis) for real‑time, event‑driven workloads.
● Review code across new and existing internal tools; enforce best practices (style, testability, security, performance, documentation).
● Partner with the Data Science Manager and Analytics Engineer to integrate models and analytics into production services and UIs
● Deep‑dive into users’ problems and turn complex workflows into intuitive UIs and automations for non‑technical users
● Ensure reliability, security, and performance across applications and integrations in AWS and GCP; containerize with Docker; set up CI/CD, logging, metrics, tracing, and SLOs/alerts
● Participate in planning and delivery; propose prototypes and new tooling that continuously raise engineering quality and velocity
● Manage and collaborate with overseas development teams, providing direction, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring high quality results
● Document systems and processes to ensure continuity and ease of maintenance
● Embed cybersecurity best practices by enforcing least‑privilege access, managing secrets (vault/rotation), encrypting data in transit and at rest, and enabling CI/CD scanning for code, dependencies, and secrets
Special projects as assigned Skills and Qualifications:
● 3+ years as a full stack software engineer
● Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred
● Cloud/DevOps: 2+ years with AWS (preferred) and GCP; Docker; CI/CD (GitHub Actions or similar); monitoring/observability (Prometheus, Grafana, Sentry).
● 3+ years coding in Python, JavaScript, or similar frameworks
● Frontend: proficiency with React + TypeScript (or equivalent modern FE framework) ● Backend/API: experience building GraphQL (Apollo) and REST services; WebSockets/real‑time patterns a plus.
● Streaming & data: Kafka or RabbitMQ (or similar); strong SQL; PostgreSQL schema design and query optimization; time‑series experience a plus.
● 1+ years managing or collaborating with overseas development teams
● Experience with ERP/Acumatica, Shopify, or regulated/manufacturing environments is a plus.
● Preferred: demonstrated interest in data science, machine learning, and deep learning (e.g., scikit-learn, PyTorch/TensorFlow) and turning models into production APIs/services.
