What to Expect
Tesla AI’s Teleoperation team is building the systems that enable remote operation and assistance for our robotaxi fleet and humanoid robots. While our vehicles and robots are designed to operate fully autonomously, there are rare edge cases and challenging environments where human guidance is essential. Our mission is to deliver seamless, low-latency, high-reliability remote access - ensuring that our AI systems continue to perform safely and efficiently in all conditions.
This team operates at the intersection of AI, networking, embedded systems, and real-time control. We’re developing scalable teleoperation infrastructure capable of streaming high-bandwidth data (video, telemetry, control signals) across unreliable global networks, while maintaining safety, performance, and responsiveness.
At Tesla, we own the entire hardware and software stack, from silicon to cloud. This vertical integration allows us to design optimized solutions for every layer, vehicle firmware, edge compute, backend systems, and operator interfaces. You’ll collaborate closely with Autonomy, Firmware, Controls, and Infrastructure teams to build the world’s most advanced teleoperation platform supporting both Autopilot/Robotaxi programs and the Optimus humanoid robot.
What You'll Do-
Influence architectural decisions with a focus on security, scalability, reliability, and high performance across distributed systems
-
Design and build backend infrastructure to support teleoperation at scale, enabling control of thousands of autonomous vehicles and robots worldwide
-
Select and implement technologies that optimize for performance and cost efficiency, ensuring seamless scaling across Tesla’s growing fleets
-
Collaborate closely with AI, Firmware, and Autonomy teams to design and integrate backend components for future autonomy features and real-time control loops
-
Develop and maintain observability systems, including monitoring, metrics, and alerting, for complete visibility from device to cloud
-
Create robust, automated testing frameworks to ensure reliability, prevent regressions, and enable safe continuous deployment
What You'll Bring-
Hands-on experience in application-layer development using C++, Go, and/or Python
-
Strong foundation in Linux systems, networking, storage, and cloud infrastructure
-
Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet
-
Experience managing and scaling databases and search technologies like PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, and Redis
