Welcome to Chief Media
We're a New York City-based, data-focused media agency specializing in TV and streaming. We're a small, 40-person agency, which means you'll have direct impact on our products, as well as work closely with everyone from the data and tech team, to accounts and media buying teams, to the clients themselves.
Join our data science team to help us build new data products, push our analytics capabilities, and contribute to our clients' success. Our team designs and manages data products and frameworks, builds data pipelines, and transforms complex data into actionable insights for media campaign optimization and business decision-making.
The Role
Our analytics offering has been built to provide a granular and prescriptive media performance reporting product and is a key tenet of our value-add as an agency. Our data and engineering teams are small, but we've created a robust, cloud-based data foundation that supports an extremely capable stack of analytics and software products. In other words, our work isn't munging data in Excel and calling it data science.
You'll be working primarily on cross-platform media mix and attribution reporting and serving as a client-facing analytics partner for one or more accounts. We market ourselves as a bespoke solution, using our datasets as tools to solve our clients' specific problems, which means you'll be building custom reporting solutions from the ground up. We love building things and we're looking for candidates who love building things too, and who understand that strong client relationships and requirements gathering are just as important as technical execution.
In any given day, your responsibilities might include:
- Building custom reports end-to-end. This means gathering client requirements, data modeling, and final report delivery (currently Power BI), with minimal supervision once you’re up and running in the position.
- Serving as the primary analytics contact for assigned clients, translating their business questions into technical solutions and presenting insights in that directly inform critical marketing and media buying decisions.
- Handling complex, high-priority ad-hoc data requests that require in-depth analysis of both standardized company data and a wide variety of client first-party data.
- Designing and implementing BI data models that are both flexible enough to accommodate evolving client needs and robust enough to scale.
- Using your technical skills to build queries, scripts, and data transformations that support and improve existing analytics products.
- Coming up with and pitching ideas you feel will add value to our product stack.
- Helping build and expand the company's data culture while mentoring more junior team members.
Core Requirements
The things we’d like you to have to be successful from the outset:
- A bachelor's degree or higher in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) field.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in an analytics or data science role, with at least two years in a high-visibility client/stakeholder facing position.
- Proven experience building custom BI solutions from requirements gathering through final delivery, ideally in a marketing, media, or agency environment.
- Advanced proficiency in Power BI or Tableau, including both data modeling and report development. Experience with cross-platform marketing data integration is highly valued.
- Strong SQL skills (we use Postgres) – you should be comfortable writing complex queries, optimizing performance, and designing data models.
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis, automation, and scripting. Experience with pandas, numpy, and data visualization libraries is expected.
- Experience with predictive analytics and statistical modeling, whether that's forecasting campaign performance, building attribution models, or developing other predictive solutions that drive client decision-making.
- Demonstrable experience translating ambiguous business problems into technical solutions – often with incomplete or evolving requirements.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts and data solutions to non-technical stakeholders, both in presentations and ongoing client relationships.
- Competency and confidence applying scientific and statistical principles to analyses and product development.
- Ability to work autonomously on complex projects with minimal supervision, while knowing when to escalate or collaborate.
Bonus Points
The things that will make you really stand out:
- A master's degree in a STEM field, particularly in statistics, data science, or related quantitative discipline.
- Experience building marketing attribution models or working with multi-touch attribution frameworks.
- Direct experience with marketing analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, marketing mix modeling tools, etc.) and understanding how to integrate their data into broader analytics solutions.
- Experience in media agency or performance marketing environments, particularly with cross-channel campaign analysis.
- Deep understanding of dimensional data modeling best practices and their application in BI environments, particularly for marketing data.
- Familiarity with fundamental software engineering principles. Version control, documentation standards, code review practices, even without formal engineering experience.
- Experience automating data processes and building data pipelines, particularly in cloud environments (we use AWS).
- Experience with APIs and data integrations, pulling data from various platforms and consolidating it into unified reporting solutions.
- Any experience conducting independent research in an industry or education setting, particularly applied research that led to actionable business outcomes.
What working here looks like:
We're fully remote with a hybrid option for NYC metro area candidates. Our data and engineering teams are relatively small but we've invested in building a robust, cloud-based infrastructure (AWS, Postgres, BI tools) that lets us operate a class above a company of our size. You'll have real autonomy and flexibility in how you approach problems, and your work will directly impact client strategies and our product development.
We value work-life balance and understand that good work comes from sustainable practices. We value excellence and want you to give your best, and we give you the flexibility you need to do it. If you're looking for a place where you can own meaningful projects, work across different types of analytics challenges, and actively collaborate with every team in a business, this might be a good fit.
