The Details:
As an Associate Data Engineer at Palomar, you will contribute to the design, building, and maintenance of our business-critical data solutions. In this entry-level engineering role, you’ll work alongside senior engineers and cross-functional partners to develop and maintain scalable, well-documented data assets and pipelines. You’ll help deliver trusted, reliable data to the teams who depend on it, supporting decision-making as well as regulatory and financial reporting. This is a hands-on role with mentorship, learning opportunities, and a clear path toward growing into a Data Engineer position.
What will you do? (Job Duties)

Maintain & Help Build Data Pipelines:
- Assist in development and support of ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) processes.
- Collaborate with the Data Operations team to monitor pipelines and resolve issues.
- Support Data Projects
- Partner with engineers and analysts to build reusable, well-documented data assets.
- Help translate business questions into data tasks and prototype solutions.
- Data Integration & Normalization:
- Help ingest and integrate data from various internal and external sources.
- Support efforts to ensure data cleanliness and consistency.
- Data Quality & Governance:
- Assist in implementing data quality checks and validation processes.
- Learn and apply Palomar’s data governance and compliance standards.
- Collaboration & Documentation:
- Work closely with analysts, subject matter experts, and senior data team members.
- Document workflows and solutions to support knowledge sharing.
- Learn & Grow:
- Take on increasingly complex tasks as you build familiarity with our tech stack and data ecosystem.
Requirements:
What we are looking for: (Experience)

Some experience in data engineering, data analytics, or a related field—this may come from professional roles, internships, teaching, data/coding boot camps, self-study, or personal projects.

Basic proficiency in SQL and understanding of relational databases.

Interest in building and optimizing data pipelines and workflows.

Curiosity about data modeling, cloud technologies (e.g. Snowflake, Microsoft Azure), and modern ELT tools like dbt.

Motivation to learn about and work on real-world business problems in the property & casualty space.
Bonus points for:

Python or other scripting language experience

Exposure to data quality, data governance, or reporting workflows
-
Familiarity with Git or version control
-
Insurance or financial services experience (but not required)

Pay Range: $89,000-$126,000
The above pay range is for all US-based roles based on function and level, benchmarked against companies of similar size and scope. To be compliant with local legislation as well as provide greater transparency to candidates, we disclose salary ranges on all job postings regardless of the desired job location. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and the opportunity for annual long-term incentive stock grants. In addition, we offer a highly competitive benefits package. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and qualifications, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
