Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Data Engineer. This position will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing robust, scalable data pipelines that enable seamless data flow across key educational and administrative systems. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in cloud-based data architecture (preferably Azure), ETL/ELT processes, and secure, real-time data integrations.The Data Engineer will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining real-time and bi-directional data synchronization pipelines between various systems, including:
- AMS (Academic Management System)
- Azimuth Dataverse
- Canvas LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability)
- Slate Admissions Platform
The consultant will also be instrumental in consolidating these data sources into a centralized, modern platform to support analytics, compliance, and operational reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable, resilient data pipelines and integration workflows for real-time and batch processing.
- Develop bi-directional sync mechanisms between AMS, Azimuth Dataverse, Canvas LTI, and Slate Admissions.
- Build connectors and APIs where needed to enable seamless interoperability across platforms.
- Perform data mapping, cleansing, transformation, and validation to ensure data integrity across systems.
- Implement data governance, lineage tracking, and metadata management in alignment with organizational standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software engineers, data analysts, system administrators, and stakeholders to meet integration goals.
- Develop automated monitoring and alerting solutions to track data flows, detect anomalies, and ensure system health.
- Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including pipeline designs, system architecture diagrams, and ETL processes.
- Support security, compliance, and policy requirements including DoD 8140 standards.
Required Certifications
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203)
- DoD 8140 Compliant: IAT Level II Certification, such as:
- CompTIA Security+
- CCNA Security
- CySA+
- GSEC, or equivalent
Preferred Skills and Experience
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with emphasis on cloud data platforms (Azure preferred).
- Deep understanding of ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Databricks, or similar.
- Experience with API integration, webhooks, and middleware for real-time data sync.
- Proficiency in data modeling, SQL, and working with relational and non-relational databases.
- Knowledge of educational technology platforms such as Canvas, Slate, and Dataverse.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD for data pipelines.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
