About the Role
Our client is seeking a sharp and motivated Data Scientist – AI Agent to join the team. The successful candidate will combine strong programming and data science skills with an interest in finance to design, build, and iterate on AI-driven tools and agents that enhance investment research and decision-making.
This is a unique opportunity for a technically minded individual to work onsite in New York City, applying cutting-edge AI techniques to real-world financial problems in close partnership with the portfolio manager.
Principal Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain AI Agents to support investment workflows (e.g., research automation, data summarization, idea generation).
- Rapidly prototype and iterate on new tools to meet the evolving needs of the portfolio manager.
- Integrate structured and unstructured datasets into AI pipelines.
- Develop APIs and lightweight automation scripts to connect data sources and agents.
- Apply LLM frameworks (e.g., LangChain, OpenAI APIs) and vector databases to enable retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
- Collaborate directly with the portfolio manager to translate investment problems into technical solutions.
- Document, monitor, and improve agent performance over time.
Qualifications / Skills Required
- BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or related field.
- 1–5 years of programming experience, ideally in Python.
- Strong interest in AI/LLMs (experience with LangChain, RAG pipelines, or agentic frameworks a plus).
- Familiarity with ETL processes, APIs, and SQL database querying.
- Experience in or exposure to financial data, company metrics, or market research preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to iterate quickly on prototypes.
- Strong communication skills — able to listen to domain experts and explain technical solutions simply.
