SUMMARY
We’re hiring a Data Engineer to design and optimize Sunwest’s Azure-based data infrastructure. This role will build scalable pipelines across Azure Blob Storage, Microsoft Fabric, and OneLake to support advanced analytics and AI. Responsibilities include developing orchestration engines for document ingestion, tagging, and automated extraction, integrating AI/ML services and databases to combine insights with operational data. The engineer will ensure pipelines are secure, efficient, and structured to support AI-driven document processing and enterprise reporting
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and optimize Sunwest’s enterprise data infrastructure using Azure technologies
- Build scalable data pipelines across Azure Blob Storage, Microsoft Fabric, and OneLake
- Develop orchestration engines for document ingestion and processing workflows
- Implement tagging and chunking mechanisms for incoming documents
- Create automated extraction pipelines to derive insights from documents
- Integrate AI/ML services and databases to combine extracted insights with operational data
- Ensure data pipelines are secure, efficient, and structured for AI-driven applications
- Support enterprise reporting and analytics through robust data architecture

Required QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience: 5–10 years in data engineering, with a strong track record in building and maintaining data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes for large datasets
- Cloud Expertise: Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure services, especially Blob Storage, Fabric, and OneLake (or similar lakehouse platforms)
- Pipeline Development: Skilled in Python, PySpark, SQL, and orchestration tools like Airflow, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, or Apache Spark
- AI Integration: Experience using AI/ML services (e.g., OCR, NLP, Azure Cognitive Services) to extract and process document data
- Database Knowledge: Strong understanding of SQL Server, relational and NoSQL databases, with the ability to design schemas and optimize data storage for analytics and real-time access
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Fabric / OneLake: Experience with Fabric and OneLake is a strong plus; familiarity with similar platforms like Azure Synapse or Snowflake is helpful
- Document Pipelines: Background in processing unstructured data (PDFs, images, text) using OCR and text extraction tools
- AI & NLP: Understanding of NLP and AI/ML techniques for document classification and entity extraction
- Data Governance: Experience with data quality, metadata management, and security controls—especially in regulated environments
- Collaboration: Comfortable working with data scientists and engineers to deploy AI models; experience with Agile and version control tools
