Our Data Engineers play a pivotal role in driving technical excellence and business value for our clients. Critical aspects of this role entail the ability to discover business requirements and work alongside our clients as you architect and implement modern data engineering solutions within the Microsoft ecosystem. You will also mentor others and lead the solution design and build process as you meet client expectations and project scope.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with senior engineers and architects to design and implement modern data solutions using Microsoft Azure technologies.
- Engage directly with clients to understand business needs and translate them into scalable data engineering solutions.
- Build and maintain data ingestion methods, pipelines, and integrations using Azure resources such as Data Factory, Python Notebooks, Data Lake, Logic Apps, and Databricks.
- Develop clean, reliable, and reusable code for data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration.
- Participate in client meetings, design sessions, and working sessions to support solution delivery.
- Contribute to the development of internal standards, templates, and documentation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues with a focus on performance, scalability, and data quality.
- Stay current with Microsoft’s evolving data platform and proactively suggest ideas for continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- 3-5+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, preferably within the Microsoft ecosystem.
- Experience working with Azure data services, such as Data Factory, ADLS, Azure Databricks, Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL Database, and Fabric.
- Strong SQL skills and a solid understanding of relational databases, data transformation logic, and dimensional modeling (e.g., star schemas).
- Experience building and maintaining data pipelines and orchestration workflows, ideally using metadata-driven techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to write, understand, explain, and teach highly complex SQL and Python code to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Familiarity with API integration and working with JSON data structures (e.g., flattening, normalizing).
- Understanding of modern data architecture principles, including datalake, warehouse, lakehouse, medallion architecture, and data lifecycle management
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and contribute to client-facing projects with support from senior team members.

Certifications Requirement
Role
Applicants for the Data Engineer role must have the following certifications or a plan to attain them within the first year of employment:
- DP-900: Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals
- Certification: DP-700 Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer Associate
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, and modern data platform architectures.
Preferred Skills (Not Required)
- Certification: DP-600 Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate.
- Data Architecture & Performance: Proven experience designing and optimizing systems for high-volume, high-velocity data, including real-time or near-real-time analytics pipelines using tools such as Azure Stream Analytics, Event Hubs, or Kafka.
- Azure Databricks Expertise: Hands-on experience building and orchestrating Spark-based data pipelines and notebooks for large-scale data processing using Azure Databricks.
- Project Delivery Methodologies: Familiarity with Agile/Scrum, Kanban, Waterfall, and hybrid project delivery approaches.
- Change Management: Understanding of change management practices to support successful data and AI adoption.
- Advanced Analytics & BI: Experience delivering projects involving Power BI, AI/ML adoption, or advanced analytics solutions.
- Dynamics 365 Experience: Exposure to Dynamics 365, specifically Project Service Automation or Project Operations modules.
- DevOps Integration: Experience working with Azure DevOps for project tracking, CI/CD pipelines, and collaboration.

- Review The Data Warehouse Toolkit by Ralph Kimball to align with JourneyTeam’s data modeling standards.
- Participate in team training and actively contribute to shared learning sessions.
- Shadow data engineers to understand implementation workflows and delivery cadence.
- Begin contributing to client projects by supporting solution design or development tasks.
6 Months
- Independently architect and implement customer-facing data solutions.
- Lead internal knowledge-sharing by developing data standards, templates, and reusable assets.
- Facilitate or co-lead client meetings, workshops, and solution demos.
- Serve as a key contributor across multiple client projects and long-term support engagements.
- Earn a relevant Microsoft certification (e.g., Fabric Data Engineer Associate).
- Maintain a 75%+ customer engagement rate, demonstrating consistent delivery and client value.
1-Year
- Continue serving as a key contributor across multiple client projects and long-term support engagements.
- Sustain a 75%+ customer engagement rate, reinforcing consistent delivery and trusted client relationships.
Compensation
The base salary range for this role is $100,000 – $160,000 + performance-based bonus program. Eligibility and payout are tied to individual contributions, team performance, and company success.
This is the established pay range for the Standard and Senior Data Engineer roles at JourneyTeam. Final compensation is dependent on demonstrated skills, relevant experience, and alignment with the role’s responsibilities. In general, new employees can expect to start at the lower end of the range (with opportunity to grow and expand within the organization)
